How to be successful this year ???
Charles de Lint said, "Life is like art. You have to work hard to keep it simple and still have meaning."
Here are the some of the tips to follow to make a year successful:
Open your box of ideas and allow your creative instinct to come alive. Dream again because dreams do come true. Edith Lovejoy Pierce said, "We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity…"
Don't carry extra luggage
Leave the aches, pains, disappointments and every negative shadow of the past year behind. Brooks Atkinson said, "Drop the last year into the limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go".
Courtesy will open doors for you where your talent or resume cannot. So be courteous to everyone you meet. Don't ever forget the fact that life is unpredictable. The person you treat with disdain today may be your boss tomorrow. Thomas Fuller said, "All doors open to courtesy".
Follow credible footsteps
Make sure the people you admire and emulate have a track record of hard work, honesty, integrity, diligence and success. Tyron Edwards said, "People never improve unless they look to some standard or example higher and better than themselves," while Charles A. Fowler said, "The best teachers of humanity are the lives of great men."
Do not envy anyone
When you envy people it fills you with bitterness and hinders your growth. Frank Tyger said, "You can't be envious and happy at the same time."
Render help freely
Assist people without insisting to be paid. With time, your selfless attitude will be rewarded beyond your imagination. Floral Edwards said, "In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us."
Have a good name
There are three things that make a life tick, namely, fame, wealth and a good name. Of the three, only a good name stands the test of time. The book of Proverbs says, "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…"
Go at your own pace
Don't try to be someone else, rather do things at your pace and in your style. Excellence is prominent when you are original. Herman Melville said, "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation."
Carry out a periodic review
Map out a strategy of assessing your progress either monthly or quarterly. This will enable you to monitor your performance if you are on track or not. A Ugandan proverb says, "He who never knows where he is going, will never know whether he has arrived."
Finish what you start
Endeavour to have 'the finishing spirit.' Many of you failed to achieve your goals for last year because you easily gave up to discouragement, mistakes, challenges, etc. This year, don't abandon any worthwhile thing that you start. An anonymous author said, "we rate ability in men by what they finish, not by what they attempt."
