Remembering the Brave Hearts : Operation Vijay : 22 may 1999 – feb 2000 : kargil

One of the gallant Battalions, 17 JAT REGIMENT remembers its Brave Hearts Captain Anuj Nayyar, Sub Harphool and 34 Jawans who were martyred for the Nation during the capture of Pt 4540 and Pimple Complex of the ‘MUSKOH Valley’ in Kargil (J&K), during ‘OP VIJAY’.

The 17 JAT along with other Regiments successfully evicted the Pakistan Army infiltrators in the various attacks at heights of over to 3000 ft and regained Kargil heights across Zojla; step by step, day and night, bunker to bunker in the treacherous sangar stone mountains with no cover, narrow frontage with enemy incessant fire… restoring the border and….. our National pride!

The Battalions selfless services were recognized and were bestowed with Battle HONOUR’S – “MUSKOH & THEATRE Honours – KARGIL”: by the President of India along with COAS unit citation, 42 gallantry awards (one MVC, four VrC’s, six Sena Medals amongst other recognition/awards) for its gallant action.

History has been written in Blood, indelible for generations to come… motivating young men and woman… to join the Defence Forces… bringing pride to oneself and glory to our great ‘NATION’ _ INDIA! “WE SALUTE Our Brave hearts!”
